Michigan Standout Signs with Lady Suns

Michigan native Tina Westendorp made it official on January 8, 2010. Joined by her parents and high school coach, she signed a Letter of Intent to compete with the Florida Christian College Lady Suns in the upcoming Fall. A standout Outside Hitter at Maple Valley High School in Vermontville, Michigan, Westendorp earned an All-State honorable mention, and a first-team All-Conference selection in her Senior year.

Tina and her mother met with Coach Reed at Maple Valley High in early November. As they talked it became apparent that Tina was more than a strong player. "Tina is a young lady that you are immediately impressed with and at ease with," said Coach Reed. "She knows who she is in Christ and posseses a deeply settled maturity." Coach Reed expects that confidence to assist the Lady Suns next year, a squad which will be young and see many new faces.

Westendorp led her team in kills and aces in her senior season, but Coach Reed was also impressed with her backrow play. "Tina's strength is in her passing," said Reed. She also noted that Tina had a "natural 'sense' defensively" as a backrow player, and has the potential to be used in several different positions. Coach Reed said, "Tina has the foundation and the potential to be used both offensively and defensively. We expect her to make significant contributions this fall."
