September 22, 2011. Kissimmee, FL. The Florida Christian College Men’s Basketball team had a special visitor on campus this week. Stan Van Gundy, Head Coach of the Orlando Magic, came to speak with the team about pursing excellence on and off the court. Suns Head Coach Jake Deer was very pleased with the event. “This was a great opportunity to have another voice saying the same things we preach to our players every day. Coach Van Gundy did a great job of emphasizing the importance of having a team first attitude which is so important in small college sports.”

Looking ahead, the team will begin practice on Monday September 26th and then head to the University of Central Florida that weekend (September 30th-October 2nd) to be the on-court demonstrators

at the Nike Championship Coaches Clinic for the second year in a row. The team will be taken through different drills and concepts by some of basketball’s finest collegiate and professional coaches in front of over 400 other coaches from all around the southeastern United States. After some pre-season scrimmages in October, the Suns will then open their season (at home) against Southeastern University on November 1st.
