![]() Suns Win 2012 South Regional ChampionshipFebruary 25, 2012: Toccoa Falls, GA -- The Florida Christian College Men's Basketball Team broke their huddle on something a little different the last 15 minutes of Saturday's South Region Championship Basketball: "Find a Way". After trailing by as much as 14 points late in the second half to #1 seed Clearwater Christian College, the Suns did just that: They found a way. After heading into halftime with a one point lead (32-31), the Suns trailed the whole second half until the final seconds. Down two with the ball, the Suns had time to run one final play. Coach Deer called an isolation play for Junior Guard Terrence Taylor. With the clock winding down, Taylor drove past his defender and shot a floater in the paint the rattled around the rim and finally dropped in, tying the game and sending it into overtime. "Yeah, in different moments of adversity we really showed persistence and determination to win" commented Taylor after the game. Taylor's shot gave the Suns the boost and momentum they needed to come into the 5 minute overtime period confident and ready. The Suns were that and more as they dismantled a Senior led Clearwater team, and in the process, won the school's first ever Region Championship by a score of 76-70. Head Coach Jake Deer was elated with his team's performance. "I thought our guys showed tremendous poise down the stretch of the game. No one gave up, no one put their head down, everyone was linked together to fight our way back into the game. I am really proud of the way we finished the game Saturday. I thought Terrence played great the final 5 min. and we got a great defensive contribution from the bench in Jihad, Juwan, and Stephen. Everyone really showed up!.” The Suns found out late Saturday night that they had been voted as the #4 seed of the tournament (out of 12 teams), giving them a first round bye. They will play on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. against the winner of tournament host #12 Central Bible College #5 Kuyper College. All games will be broadcast for free on the Christian College Sports Network's web site. Click Here To Watch The Men’s Basketball Team Compete In The National Tournament Live. |
