Four Suns Baseball Players Named To
NCAA All-American Team
Four FCC baseball players were named to the 2012 NCCAA All-American Team. The players named to the NCCAA All-American Team are:
Eric Santamaria (Miami, FL) - Infielder/Pitcher - Led the Suns and the country with a blistering .468 BA, along with a .569 slugging pct. (11th in the country) and a .496 OBP (5th in the country).
Mark Vidal (Orlando, FL) - Infielder - Was 9th in the country with a .401 BA, led the Suns with a .580 slugging pct. (8th in the country) along with a .472 OBP (11th in the country) and 26 RBI’s, and was 2nd in the country in hits per game.
Brent Hodge (Daytona Beach, FL) - Pitcher - Led the Suns on the mound with 5 wins, 1 save, and a 3.95 ERA (3rd in the country) and was 4th in the country in strikeouts per game.
Erick Figueroa (Jacksonville, FL) - Outfielder - Batted .373 with a .563 slugging pct.(13th in the country), and a .439 OBP, and led the Suns this season with 38 RBI’s (2nd in the country).
An award that we are especially proud of went to Sophomore Erick Figueroa. Erick won the prestigious “Hank Burbridge Unlimited Potential Outstanding Leadership Award”. Below is a description of the award:
“To honor the NCCAA’s Outstanding Christian Baseball Player of the Year, for both Division I and Division II, with potential for Christian Service through baseball. Student-athlete must possess and demonstrate an Unlimited Potential in serving Christ through: athletics, their local fellowship, sports evangelism and/or other Christian organizations. Unlimited Potential, Inc. is an organization that ministers to baseball programs around the world “serving Christ through Baseball.” Hank Burbridge was the long time baseball coach at Spring Arbor University and mentor/leader in NCCAA as well as NAIA baseball”
The team will be playing in the NCCAA World Series in Mason, OH this week. They earned the #2 seed (out of 8 teams) and will playing against Manhattan Christian College in the opening round today (Wednesday 5/9/12) at 4:00 p.m. There will be no video or audio broadcast, but you can follow live stats of the game by clicking here:
