Suns Open Season Ranked 9th in NCCAA Poll

January 10th, 2012, Kissimmee, Florida

Astros Property

The Florida Christian College Men’s Baseball team is nationally ranked. And get this: They haven’t even played a game yet. The NCCAA has ranked the Suns Baseball team 9th in country to start the 2011-2012 season, a high honor for a new program that hasn’t even thrown an official pitch yet.

Head Coach Jon Copeland was hired in February of 2011 as the program’s inaugural Coach. His task wasn’t easy: Recruit and field a competitive intercollegiate team of mission fit student-athletes that would be ready to start practicing and scrimmaging in September, and be ready to compete at the intercollegiate level by January. According to his NCCAA peers, Coach Copeland is off to a good start.

Tinker Field

The Suns will open their season on January 27th with a game against Point University at the Houston Astros Spring Training Complex (located across the street from the college). While the Astros are at the facility training in February and March, the team will play their home games at Historic Tinker Field in downtown Orlando (located next to the Citrus Bowl). Built in 1914, Tinker is an iconic venue serving as the Spring Training home to notable clubs like the Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and Minnesota Twins.
