The #9 ranked FCC Suns Baseball program earned the first victory in the program’s young history by defeating the visiting Skyhawks from Point University by the score of 4-0 during the two team’s season opening 3-game series. Freshmen, Brent Hodge and Kyle Harding combined to toss a 1-hitter during the complete game shutout. Head Coach, Jon Copeland, was pleased with his team’s performance. “For the vast majority of first-year college baseball programs the expectation level is limited. However, we have a group of talented and hard-working players who are in the process of jelling together very well, and who could put together a very exciting season. To come right out from the start with a victory on the first weekend of the program, against a quality opponent, is definitely encouraging.”

Hodge garners first Player of the Week recognition: Freshman, Brent Hodge, from Mainland HS, earned the Suns first POW award with his 6-inning, 1-hit victory over Point University.

This week: The Suns travel to Ave Maria University for a 3-game series that begins on Friday, 2/3.
