Suns Baseball Fall Program in Full Swing10/5/12 - The 2nd edition of the FCC Suns Baseball squad began their quest to build on their National Runner-Up campaign, from the program’s first year of existence last season, with their full fall program covering most of September through November. The program includes a very competitive slate of scrimmages against some of the top community college programs in the state of Florida. Suns Head Coach, Jon Copeland, is pleased with what he sees so far, “The players have responded to our expectations very well, it is a great group of young men who are significantly ahead of where we were at this time last year”. Copeland is also pleased with the fall scrimmage schedule, “When you face some of the top JC talent in the country it gives you a detailed indication of where you are at as a program, and what we can focus on in preparation for the spring”. The fall schedule is: 10/13/12- vs. South Florida CC – 11:00 AM - Astros Spring Training Complex In addition to a highly regarded recruiting class, the Suns also welcome two new assistant coaches to the coaching staff this season. New Pitching Coach, Eddie Gonzalez, spent two seasons as an assistant at NCAA Div. I Northern Kentucky University, after a six-year professional playing career in the minors. New Assistant Coach, Jerry Gonzalez, spent five years as a player in the L.A. Angels organization, and has a wealth of experience coaching on the travel ball circuit. “The additions of Eddie and Jerry”, stated Copeland, “mean we have a full staff with professional playing experience. I know many NCAA Div. I coaching staffs that cannot make that claim. God has truly blessed the Suns Baseball program with a very capable coaching staff”.
