Student Housing at Florida Christian College
What You Should Bring
You will want to discuss some things with your roommates (you will be notified in August) to avoid overlapping items such as electronics (television, etc), kitchen supplies, and/or other items. Your room will be furnished with a twin-size bed, a dresser, and a desk.
Electronics
Each apartment is cable ready. Many students wish to bring a television, DVD/VCR player, stereo, iPod, alarm clock, computer (the library has a computer lab if you do not bring your own), telephone, and any other electronic item you might want.
Kitchen Supplies
Because the apartments offer full kitchens, you will want to make sure that between your roommates your apartment has cups, plates, bowls, and silverware, as well as pots, pans, and other cooking items. Cleaning supplies are also important and can be shared purchases.
Appliances
We suggest that each room have a microwave and toaster, but you can get creative and bring other helpful kitchen appliances as well.
Linens & Laundry Supplies
You will need to bring linens, including twin-size sheets, a blanket or two, a bedspread, pillows, towels, and washcloths. There are laundry facilities located on campus. You’ll need quarters, a laundry basket or bag, detergent, and fabric softener or dryer sheets
Medicine
Our Residence Director has first-aid supplies handy for emergencies, but having a small first aid kit is helpful. Include aspirin or ibuprofen, bandages, Betadyne solution, antibiotic ointment, etc. Don’t forget your prescription medication and vitamins!
Fix-it Box
If a button comes off a shirt, or you need to make other small repairs, it is helpful to have a small “fix it “ box, complete with sewing supplies, masking tape, a stapler, tape measure, glue, scissors, and anything else you may need for do-it-yourself repairs.
Decorations
Students love the apartment experience because you have the opportunity to truly make it “home”. This is where your own unique style comes into play. Bring some of your favorite “wall items” to hang with a tack or small nail. 3M hooks are also helpful and suggested! Potted plants, rugs, and creative lighting or candles can also create a homey environment.
Sports Equipment
You probably need no reminder to bring your baseball glove, football, soccer ball, Frisbees, swimsuit, and so forth. Full weights are available to you in the weight room located in the Student Union Building as well.
Lock Box
A locking box of some kind in which to store your valuables is a good idea; it should accommodate personal papers, jewelry, etc. Students are encouraged to open a personal checking account. Keeping large amounts of cash in your room is not recommended.
Miscellaneous
Many students find stackable crates/portable shelving units for organization purposes. You will also need to provide a shower curtain, toilet paper, etc for your room. Bad weather “gear”, including an umbrella or raincoat is helpful for the rainy seasons in Florida. Sweaters and lightweight to medium weight coats are helpful during the fall and winter time. No snow boots needed!
