Dr. James Smith will return in both the fall and spring semesters to teach History of Israel, Ezekiel and Daniel, Genesis Seminar, Canonics, and Postexilic Prophets. Jim Smith grew up in a preacher’s home in East Tennessee. He has three brothers who are preachers. Dr. Smith received his education from Cincinnati Bible Seminary and Hebrew Union College—Jewish Institute of Religion. He came to Florida from a teaching position at Cincinnati Bible Seminary to help found Florida Christian College in 1976. Over the years he has served as Academic Dean and as Chairman of the Division of Biblical Studies. Dr. Smith retired in December 2004 but has graciously returned to teach on a limited basis.
“Doc” Smith (as most folks call him) has authored eleven books, the most recent of which is the NIV commentary on 1 & 2 Samuel published by College Press. In addition, Dr. Smith works with his wife, Rachel, in producing resource materials for the National Bible Bowl and Beginner Bowl programs.
Dr. Smith has been married to his high school sweetheart for over forty years. The Smiths have two children, Keith and Yona, both of whom are active in Orlando area churches. |
