BS - in Christian Education Ministry

Specialization:Musical Arts

(135 semester hour degree:  Bible - 30 hours; General Studies - 45 hours; and Ministerial Studies - 60 hours)

Purpose:  The Musical Arts Specialization is designed to prepare the student with music teaching and administration skills to lead to a music-emphasis ministry in the local church and/or establish a private studio or music school as a career musician.

Goals:  The Musical Arts program is designed to prepare the student . . .

  1. to organize, administrate, and teach a structured music-emphasis program as a music director in a local church, music school, or in a private studio.
  2. with an intermediate to advanced level of performance skills in both solo and ensemble settings.
  3. with music core-related skills in music theory, music history, general musicianship, and conducting.
  4. with basic administration skills.     

Note:  Students must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA for courses in the Ministry Major to graduate with this Specialization.

Senior recital, yearly jury seating, listening exams required for graduation.
Instrument is defined as voice, piano, or organ.  If a student's primary instrument is voice, he or she must pass a piano or organ proficiency.   If a  student's primary instrument is piano or organ, he or she must pass a voice proficiency and take piano pedagogy as the Applied Elective.  The student is required to perform a junior and senior recital.
